For the week starting 30 August 2010

Senior exams start next week and run from 9 to 15 September. These exams form part of the students’ preparation for the NCEA exams which happen early in Term 4.

Students have been working through the process of selecting their subjects for 2011. This is the starting point for building the timetable for next year. The deadline for students to return their subject selection sheets was last Friday.

The contractors are now on site to undertake improvements to some of the paving around the college. The amount of rain we have had has already caused some delay and frustration for the contractors.

We are in the process of getting our decile rating reviewed. It would be much appreciated if the survey which was sent out in the newsletter last week is completed and returned in the stamped addressed envelope or delivered to the student office. There will be two lucky draws for surveys returned by Friday 3 September of a $100 grocery hamper and a $50 meat pack.

The process is underway for the election of the next student trustee for the Board of Trustees. Nominations close on Friday 3 September and voting takes place before the end of Term 3.

At assembly last Monday, Senior Constable Sharon Glen (Youth Aid) spoke to the students about driving on a restricted licence, the use of alcohol and looking after their mates. This was a good message for the students following the promotions our students were involved with as part of SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) week.

On the weekend the boys under 14 boys’ rugby team played in the final of their Northland competition. Our boys had been unbeaten all season, but unfortunately Whangarei Boys went on to win 20 to 18 in a very close game that could have gone either way. Our boys certainly put everything they had into the game with good support from local students, families and staff. Well done to the boys for reaching the final.
