For the week starting 7 February, 2012

Students have very quickly settled into their classes and routines. The number of students who have returned to school this year is well above expectation and, as a consequence, three large senior classes have been split into two. This will not affect the rest of the students’ timetables.

During the holiday break, a lot of work was taking place on the property and some of this work continues.

· An electrical upgrade has been completed with all wiring and switch boards replaced at a cost of over $150,000. This was a health and safety issue which had to be addressed.

· All the cabling and switches for our computer system has also been replaced throughout the school and a new server is being installed. The reliability of our ICT network will be considerably improved which we look forward to. Over $300,000 was spent here, of which 80% came from a special Ministry of Education grant.

· The painting contractors have also been busy over the break but still have some areas of the school to complete.

· The e- Learning video conferencing room has been completed and we look forward to the opportunities for the ‘distance’ learning through the Harbournet e-learning cluster.

The Rodney College 50th reunion is rapidly approaching and takes place on the 17th, 18th and 19th of February. Registrations are still open and full details are on our website. The reunion committee has been very busy organising this event and, to date, a large number of registrations have been received. In preparation for the reunion, a working bee is being held on Saturday 11 February from 8.30a.m. – bring a broom, spade, gloves. It would be much appreciated if you are able to attend, even if it is just for a couple of hours.

The first meeting of the PTA for 2012 is on Wednesday 8 February at 4pm in the staff room. All parents are welcome and I like to would encourage parents to come along to these meetings. They are a good way of finding out what is happening at the college and, at the same time, have an input. They are a great group to be part of and the meetings are not long.

Principal
